The estate was established in 1929 by Robert JOILLOT – Great-Grandfather of the current generation of owners. He was a vinegrower who owns a plant nursery in the village of Pommard. Robert JOILLOT married Marthe POPILLE, the daughter of a baker in Pommard. Their son, Georges JOILLOT succeeded his father until his sudden death in 1971, leaving behind his son Jean-Luc Joillot at age 10, and his wife Simone Joillot. She was left with the almost daunting task of taking care of the vineyard practically on her own which were two parts to manage, the winegrowing and its production of vine in the nursery.
In 1981, as Jean-Luc JOILLOT turned twenty years of age, he took up the torch and in collaboration with his mother Simone JOILLOT, worked with 6 hectares of vines under the label of Domaine Jean-Luc JOILLOT. Jean-Luc married Lydia JOILLOT in 1990. Together, they grew their vineyard holdings by acquiring plots of Pommard 1er Crus Les Charmots and 1er Crus Les Epenots. They had also started exporting their wines. Lydia gave birth to their daughter, Jeanne JOILLOT in 1995.
The new generation - In 2015, Simon GAUTARD, Lydia’s son from her previous marriage, trained with his stepfather, Jean-Luc to become a winemaker. Thus, sparked Simon’s passion for wine. In 2017, Jean-Luc’s daughter Jeanne, whom trained in accountancy and management joined and worked at the family estate. In 2018, Grégoire GUIDOT, Jeanne’s spouse joined the team. As of the February 2019, this fourth generation took over the family estate, with its current 14 hectares of vines. This three-man team is carrying on the tradition, while continuing to modernize the estate. In the same year, the Domaine was renamed Domaine Georges JOILLOT – An identity reborn. A new style of wine is created.
