The Leroy’s name is a key pillar of the Burgundian wine scene and a leading light in the Côte d’Or, with three main strands: Domaine Leroy, Maison Leroy and Domaine d’Auvenay.
Maison Leroy was founded by François Leroy as a négociant house in 1868 which today headed by Mme. Bize-Leroy. She joined her father in 1955 and became president in 1971, pushing the quality of the wines even further into greatness. With the family's purchase of half the Domaine de la Romanee-Conti in 1942, the Leroy family gained further access to some of the greatest vineyards in all of Burgundy. Through the Maison Leroy, Lalou will guide the hand of several vignerons from essentially every appellation in Burgundy, and capture some of the greatest grapes and wines from these vignerons each vintage.
Maison Leroy represents a portfolio of wines selected by Mme. Lalou Bize-Leroy, but not made by her. Vignerons across Burgundy will submit their wines for evaluation and following a blind tasting, she selects just a few of them to be bottled under the Maison label.
Domaine Leroy came about in 1988. Despite a thriving business, Mme. Leroy observed the challenge and difficulty in securing wines from growers that met her exacting standards. The pivotal decision was made in 1988 to expand the vineyard holdings and Mme. Leroy acquired the estates of Charles Noëllat in Vosne-Romanée and Philippe-Rémy in Gevrey-Chambertin.
Mme. Lalou Bize-Leroy, often referred to as the queen of Burgundy. In four decades, not only crafted some of the most sought-after wines in the world but challenged and possibly surpassed the legacy of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. Her dedication, innovation and passion continue to inspire and shape the world of fine wines.
