Domaine MARIUS PERRON

After the second world war, Marius Perron was then what was called double active. He worked in both agriculture and wine. In the 1950s, Mr. Perron became a full-time winegrower (24 hours a day, 7 days a week), to support his family. Counting neither the sacrifices nor his choices, Marius Perron took care of his estate like a father of his children. In 1973, he happily and proudly received the gold medal at the Concours Général Agricole in Paris for his Château-Chalon 1966. In 1977, he was surprised to be quoted for the first time in a book "good wines and others" by Pierre-Marie Doutrelant (France loisirs edition). It was finally the recognition and the consecration of his work. His know-how is much appreciated by his trusted clientele. In 1987, Mr. Perron entrusted his estate to his son-in-law, Jacques Durand, already a winegrower in Pépieux (in the Minervois). The vines having remained in the family circle - the same state of mind is preserved, the love of the vines and a job well done are always present. It is together that these two men, heart on hand, exchange their passion for wine with one and the same objective:

To favor the quality of their products. The Domaine is now called "Domaine Durand Perron".
The flavor characteristics of Château-Chalon are as unusual as the wine's production process and history. "Curry" a common word appearing on tasting notes for these wines, with "nutty" and "roasted tobacco" following close behind. The curry flavor comes from the presence of soloton, a chemical compound that develops during the ageing process and is also found in Tokaji. The wines tend to show a high acidity which underpins their ageworthiness.

All Château-Chalon wine is sold in squat bottles known as clavelins, which contain 62cl (21 fluid ounces) of wine. This volume is said to be the quantity that would remain if a winemaker started the six-year vin jaune production process with one full liter of wine.
